How you learn Khmer cooking with us
Our approach is simple: understand the ingredients, learn the method, cook a complete meal, then enjoy it together. To really learn Khmer food you need to handle the raw ingredients in their natural state and practise the traditional techniques by hand — so that is exactly what you do. There is no watching from the sideline: each student has a fully equipped gas workplace and cooks every dish personally, guided by our Khmer team.
What happens in a class
- Welcome. You are greeted with a welcome drink and shown your station.
- Market visit (morning and full-day classes). A guided walk through a local market to see, smell and learn the fresh ingredients of Khmer cooking.
- Learn the ingredients and techniques. Fresh herbs, pastes and the traditional methods behind each dish.
- Cook. You prepare and cook a starter, a main course and a dessert from scratch, with your own set of ingredients.
- Sit down and eat. You enjoy the full meal of the dishes you cooked, with refreshments.
- Take the recipes home. Every recipe is emailed to you afterwards.
